The sidewalks in Paide are cleared of snow by the hard-working Hako Citymaster of Paide Haldus

How would you describe the experience of Paide Haldus of winter-time works with the Hako Citymaster outdoor cleaning machine?
‘Pursuant to the contract, street and road maintenance in Paide is divided between several service providers. We maintain sidewalks and squares in the city. Our workload is moderate and we currently feel that our capacity will allow us to increase the volume next year,’ said Peeter Saldre about his work.
The hard-working utility machine is always at work in Paide when it is snowing. This machine is ideal when you need to plough light snow which has just fallen, even in the case of a heavy snowfall. If the snow is very wet, we use tractors as well, but the Citymaster cleans all sidewalks and can even help in clearing larger squares of snow. Our Citymaster is equipped with a spreader for spreading sand and granite on the streets. As a rule, we spread sand, but also granite. Very rarely, we also use grit. We have already spread as much as 40 tons on sand on the sidewalks this winter and have to admit that we are running out. We are planning to start drying sand for next winter in May to be prepared by the winter season.
Does the Hako Citymaster have any advantages compared to other snow removal solutions?
‘Our Citymaster is a plough with adjustable width, which means that we can make it wide. This is a convenient option when you need to clean narrower sidewalks or squares. The people of Puhastusimport advised us to choose this specific plough and we are very satisfied with the solution,’ describes Peeter Saldre the works of the winter season.
Peeter Saldre adds: ‘The Hako Citymaster is also probably more quiet and convenient compared to tractors. The cabs of tractors are heated and the driver can play music, but I feel that if a machine does the work which it was designed for, this is a huge advantage and makes the machine ideal’. The Hako Citymaster is especially well-suited for cleaning narrow sidewalks, as it is a narrow machine and does not weigh over three tons.

‘We only use the Citymaster on sidewalks. It is not possible to use technology which weighs over three tons on sidewalks. The Citymaster weighs 2.5 tons and not more that three tons when loaded with sand. Other advantages are the above-mentioned width and adjustable blade of the machine. We can adjust the machine depending on the width of the street and use it in the best way possible depending on the conditions. In our opinion, it is the right tool in the right place! We can also install a snow broom on the Citymaster and have tested this once, but as this mainly works with lighter snow, we have mainly been using the snow plough. In spring, we are planning to use the broom to sweep up the dirt and granite rubble which has accumulated on the streets in winter to conveniently launch the spring season works,’ said Saldre.
Has the Hako Citymaster brought along any other changes in the organisation of work or efficiency?
According to Peeter Saldre, the greatest effects comes from cleaning the gutters in autumn. This earned a lot of praise and good feedback from the city government as well as the local people. ‘Thanks to the size of Paide, one Citymaster is enough to keep the gutters and sidewalks of the entire city efficiently clean of sand and leaves. We work in one shift,’ describes Saldre.
In spring, when the melting snow leaves loads of dirt on the streets, it will definitely take 1.5-2 months to clean the city of the dirt and debris. A lot of very different dirt and debris accumulates on the streets and must be removed before bringing out the vacuum. ‘We used to purchase the vacuum service, but there is the same season everywhere in Estonia at the same time and the demand is also the same everywhere. Therefore we often had to wait for the machine to arrive in Paide. This had an impact on the cleanliness of the city streets. Now when we have our own machine, we are ready to provide the service as soon as it is deemed necessary by the city government. Purchased service was also more expensive, so we find that the decision to buy our own machine was an economic one. It is cheaper to do the work yourself and the work can be done exactly when necessary. We are planning to clean the gutters in every one or two months in spring. We are still gathering experiences and are becoming better planners every season,’ states Peeter Saldre about the experience.
As the machine can be used year-round by changing the accessories, who would you recommend the Hako Citymaster to?
‘I would recommend it to all management companies with roads and squares to maintain. Especially to cities. For example, one machine is a fully optimum solution for a city of the size of Paide. We have also purchased a good set of accessories and it is possible to rent accessories for special works, if necessary. For example, we are planning to rent harder brushes which we do not need every day,’ says Saldre.
According to Peeter Saldre the people of Paide also like the Citymaster – people turn their head when they see it, take photos, and step closer to study the machine. It is nice to create some excitement.
