Longopac waste management system at SOL Baltics office in Riga
The Longopac waste management system has been implemented in the new office of SOL Baltics in Riga since December 2021. In the Latvian branch office, it is possible to sort waste into four types: paper, household waste, glass and plastic. We went to the SOL Baltics branch office in Riga to find out how the system has made everyday life easier and what is the best way to implement a waste sorting solution in the office. Anna Ržavskova, head of the company's Business Department in Latvia, shares her and her Teams experience.
Tell us a little about the operation of SOL Baltics and the values of the company!
We are one of the largest cleaning and management companies in the Baltics, our Latvian branch is located in Riga, we offer individualized solutions and ensure high quality and professionalism in each of our services. Our values are reflected in our daily operations and management style. We are about creating sustainable and long-lasting solutions, as well as implementing them in our company.
Did you also use these solutions when you planned the interior of your new office?
When we thought about our new office layout and functionality, we wanted to introduce the best practices and solutions we saw at our customers and cooperation partners. Today, the office is a place where we collaborate, communicate, share and work together. It was important to us that the SOL office fits the lifestyle and dynamics of our team. For example, SOL managers do not have separate offices, and the entire team has equal working conditions.
Despite the fact that we do not have our own desk, all SOL colleagues are welcome in the office and can use the shared work environment, lounge areas and everything that the SOL office has to offer.
Our personal belongings with documents are stored in a secure personal locker. The locker was created by order of SOL to be a storage place for a computer, documents, stationary goods, and it also serves as a private mailbox.
Yes, there is no place to put your cactus, but the atmosphere in the work environment is created like home, so that it is pleasant to be here. The main idea is to communicate more with each other. During Covid we spent enough time at home and isolated from each other. We realized that in order to be with people, you need to create a different environment, which is as friendly as possible and it is a pleasure to be here, because ideas are born not in the work cell itself, but somewhere along the way at the coffee machine.
How did you decide to install the Longopac waste management system in your office?
SOL Baltics has been familiar with the Longopac waste management system for a long time. We have Longopac systems in all our offices – Estonia and Lithuania as well, but in our office in Riga, it was introduced by Profiks Clean sales manager Ansis. When it came time to furnish the new Uriekstes Street office, it was obvious that the interior design criteria would be sustainability, ergonomics, and quality. Longopac fulfilled all of the requirements.
It is critical to us that the office fosters a sense of belonging, where employees feel comfortable. We follow the "Clean Desk Policy," which means we don't have a trash can under the desks or leave our belongings on the desks; instead, at the end of the day, everyone clears their desk and goes home. We value the cleaners' time and effort. Cleaning workers are frequently exposed to stressful situations, which necessitates a high level of emotional resilience. The cleaner provides not only physical strength, but also emotional strength, so it was critical for us to create a safe, practical, and comfortable environment, so that when he comes to the office, he has a good and pleasant feeling that he is listened to, understood, and feels good here. We evaluated how the item in question would serve the employee and whether it would contribute to the office. It was obvious from the start that the Longopac system should be installed in our office.
What are the benefits you feel the most since using the Longopac system?
Long-term value was important to us. If we use Longopac correctly, it is more economical. We attended the Cleaning Day seminar organized by Profiks Clean, where Paxxo representatives themselves, who created the Longopac solution, talked about the long-term benefits, both financially and economically, as well as for the environment. We accepted it as a fact and followed this idea.
How convenient is the system to use? How did the employees in the office adapt to this system?
Longopac is a simple to use solution that is both practical and elegant. Because our employees share all of the company's values, Longopac has already become a part of our everyday lives, and it is no longer something foreign and complicated. Of course, we train new employees on how to use this system, because only proper use ensures long-term solutions and prudent resource management. Employees, on the other hand, see it as a daily routine and a way of life.
What advice would you give to other offices looking to implement more sustainable waste sorting and management methods?
Others would be advised not to be afraid of change and not to worry about how we used to live before and that now we will take away trash from people under the table and they will not be satisfied with the working environment. In fact, you give them the opportunity to live more sustainably and think about their surroundings. You should not be afraid and take the initiative in implementing the new system, because if one sets an example, eventually everyone will start to follow it. We all want to live in a more sustainable world, so don't be afraid to take action!
